PASSION AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION

Writing Kick starter and Driver, Respectively.

A whole lot have been written about this duo—passion and creative expression in our previous articles, and more about them will be laid down in time to come: this gives rise to the crafting of the article, which throws light on the above worded, thematic subjects, worthy of treatment. “The outcomes of any artful expression, penned skillfully, and well guided by passion will always make exceptional books—the outstanding products of creative writing.”1 Let us see them individually, and then discourse afterward. Your critical analysis and vital comments are waited for, in earnest, my colleague.

PASSION—Writing Kick starter and Engine revs.

The reason some books leave indelible marks in readers’ minds, whilst some others have just little or no effect is the passion of the Writers’ deliveries being higher in the former than in the latter considered entities. Passion is the culmination of deep convictions about the outcome of a cause, or its taken course, and the ability to articulate its happenings, as revealed by impressive acts in pertinence to it. This quality is primally needed to put down exceptional writings. It takes writing from the ordinary sphere to the extraordinary realm where the desired effect on the reader is imparted with impact. Passion is that kick starter, which ignites creativity—writing in this case, and moves the engine pistons—human hands up and down about an inspiration, to reach the highest notch of this activity where premier quality branded literary compositions—letters, articles, or books are created.

Like many other endeavours, it entails hard work to write right. Passion is the energizer that keeps the vehicle—a writer away from boring compositions, aiding him or her to write in excellence, and making sure meaningful sentences are produced in clarity where efficiency of aims are landed, with his or her being dredged in authority—power. Worthy contents in turn confer credibility to authors, which gives rise to the authorities, they—the writers wield: it is no coincidence that “authority” is the parent word, whence “author” is derived. Writingideas stated through written words is one of our world’s most powerful tool, used to bear on man the engagements that receive and retain knowledge. It has to be creatively expressed however, for any written composition to be attention-getting.

CREATIVE EXPRESSION—Writing Driver

Creative is a Latin derived word: creatus, which means “bringing into being.” Just as a tree is in a seed, but it takes a conscious processes of sowing … and nurturing through time to pluck from that tree, so are hidden gifts—latent talents in human lives, waiting for deliberate efforts of their possessors to seek, and find them. They must be found and groomed with use, if they will be significant in the end. As with other crafts—sculpture, painting, and dancing … writing is unique, and strengthened with practice. The practice of any creative form is termed “creative expression,”which is developed in the mind with imagination, but outwardly displayed for all within hail at least, to see and perhaps admired. An ardent believer to this phenomenon, once said: “Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited; while imagination encircles the world.”2 In order to enhance the creative process for outstanding expression, ‘imagination’ should be allowed to hold the reins, and control the helms, during any creative writing procedure.

Yes! Creativity is developed with imagination, but this happens through time; hence, perseverance needs to be groomed for courage beef up. I was standing exactly where some of you—my crew members stood some years ago. Back then, the invisible impediment that stood between writing creatively and I was seemingly as humongous as the Berlin Wall, which separated East and West Germany. There were ‘doubts’ that got matured into ‘fears’ of sort, but the zeal to get better, bettered the abulia of inactivity: soon the spirit of resilience enthused the perseverance in me … and I began little by little, like the thoughtful boy—employing moments by moments with writing exercises; finally, it paid off: today, I am a better writer. The dam of my mind’s eye was busted open, and the surge of words began to form lines that are still falling in pleasant places till date. Realizing that “man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions,”3 I wrote more and more, in a bid to get my skill better—expanding the limitations of my imagination unto the realm of perfection. Indeed, creativity even in the art of writing is developed by subjecting imagination to heightened activeness—engaging in pragmatic exercises that metaphorically tone the muscles of imagination; hereby, making it more powerful than it used to be at its unenlightened state: a feat that does not come cheaply, but by the tedium of consistent use.

Beef up Imagination with Practice.

A word for “consistent use” is ‘practice.’ It is coordinated practice that differentiates the ‘mover’ from the ‘driver’ of a vehicle. Anyone can actually move a car from points ‘A’ to ‘B’ regardless of accident occurrences, should there be any mishap. But it take only the person trained to at least near perfection to drive the car and steer it away from barriers till the marked destination is reached: ‘having control’ is what it means to be a ‘good driver.’ In the same light, the creative writer is one who expresses what is laid down in an attention-getting manner that will endear readers, and grasp them till the car is halted where the book, article, or any other form of composition, which they read, comes to an exhilarating end. Writing practice is what it takes to develop imagination, and bring a writer to the road where his or her inspirations will be driven out—creatively expressed; then, consequently have attracted readers come aboard the written composition for enlightening joyride.

Maximize Your Imagination

An apposite use of one’s imagination would reveal possibilities where others see otherwise. Like Leonardo da Vinci, you can begin to think of what could be … rather than what already is. Little wonder how this exceptional human came up with his many revolutionary inventions, which were far ahead of his time—discoveries of the fifteenth century, being relevant in the twenty-fourth! He doubtless is one of the most creative geniuses of all time, for demonstrating just how creative a mind could be. You bet, you too can replicate and better his made marks; albeit, with writing: you possibly can ply passion to drive out the words formed with your thought processes, by the workings of active imagination to express creatively—literarily, solution borne ideas.

Lo! I look, and behold the surge of passion churning out from your mind to creatively express that solution borne idea, woven with your imagination in that active mind of yours; because of the light that has been cast on the subject: PASSION AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION: Writing Kick starter and Driver, Respectively. My expectation of you—dear colleague is to note down those things and people who make you draw out intense emotions—positive or negative* regardless, and make them your regular companion: they are your passion sourcing agents. More so, you have to read—read voraciously as though you are ignorant about the concerned subject—read, like a hungry lion or lioness with just one business plan: to eat! Devour all information that come your way in audio, video, soft, or hard copy media; as coincidence is overrated. There is bound to be a reason for every contact in life: He who orchestrates these workings is a purposeful God. Bottom line: While passion is culled out from within, creative expression is derived from without—it is learnt. Ply the both of them, to craft exquisitely stunning writings.
