MAN; WORK AND ITS PLEASURE, in Tangent to the Writing Profession.

MAN; WORK, AND ITS PLEASURE.

MAN

“‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness….’ God proposed; after which, ‘He created man as was initially desired.’”1 Purpose is what precedes every creation, made by God, and to this noble act—creation, man follows suite: in order that His handiworks can be seen and appreciated, “God shooed the dark and wooed forth light; to the fishes, water was first sorted out; whilst land was carved out for terrestrial beasts, creeping things and plant; to preside over all other creatures—to rule them, not his fellow man,* man was made … and then, to man, made He, woman—man’s help meet.”2

The prime objective of man’s creation is to work. Man is basically on earth to tend to all other Creatures—have dominion3manage earthrun it! Have DOM+MINION, where “Dom refers to domain, a territory to be governed; a sphere, where one can exercise influence. It’s an area of land, in this case, earth: viewed as a kingdom—king’s domain. Earth is a monarchical territory, annexed to heaven! But because our King—God is in our state capital—heaven, we rule here in His stead as ambassadors. Minion actually means a servant—a slave—someone accepting another’s rule and working hard….”#

WORK

Work is a purposeful effort, directed by way of exertions—mental or physical engagements at doing or making something happen; it is the function of starting and completing a process, or carrying out a task in a bid to getting something achieved. Work is that, which is done or made with required skills, and before work is carried out, a specific result is first anticipated that is usually realized, with accomplished job. The matter within borders of this book—writing is a skillful engagement, geared towards knowledge transference: with every complete writing project, which begins with an inspired, solution dredged idea and ends with the target audiences’ problem solving knowledge reception. Done perfectly, an anticipated result is landed: this passes writing for work.

Man, Created for Work.

Work is exactly what God intended for man to do when He expressed the thought: “And every plant of the field before it was in the earth … and there was not a man to till the ground;”4 this realization ensued the need for one to tend to other creatures; hence, the idea of a caretaker—man. God then went on ahead to fulfill His thought, when “He put him—man, inside the garden of Eden to dress … and to keep it; after his creation.”5 You were made in God’s image and after His likeness: remember? So, if God worked for six days creating things in this world, you too sure have that likelihood to do the same: so, live up to expectation.

There is no gainsaying at this point that man’s primary role on earth is to till the soil; laboriously reasoning, writers’ hoes are their pens, whilst their soil are papers or any plain surface, upon which their thoughts are inscribed. It is by works that exploits— interesting or daring achievements are wrought: It is by works that man processes first, his basic needs—necessities—feeding, clothing and shelter, as the economists infer; second, his wants— the material comforts needed to make living, pleasurable. That is the end result—positive expectation of any given or taken task, which comes at job accomplishment.

The Pleasure of Work

A sown seed travels through time to be reaped: within this time frame of planting and harvesting, there will be watering upon it, weeding around it, and pruning for some plants; then at maturity, there’s always a waiting for due seasons to eat of trees’ fruits. This same work—soft or hard, and waiting, applies to all forms of exertion that will yield results, worth their while. It was remarked that “Christ endured the Cross, for the joy that was set before him….”6 What one anticipates to gain in the pain of struggle is the pleasure, worked toward. Just as the fruits from the tree makes a farmer, nurture his sown seed, and ‘to sit at the right hand of the throne of God’—glorification, made Jesus ‘despised shame and endured the cross,’ so should you draw positive objectives to undertake worthy tasks.

Did you know that wise King Solomon found satisfaction in work, and deduced the source of such pleasure?7 You too should…! The word work should not startle you. I know many people, who long for weekends to get away from work, and many others that will do anything to evade tasks while in a job. It is in the place of work that meals are made: the reason workshop translates to “workchop!” It is obvious that these people cited, do not enjoy their chosen occupation. Enjoying a trip should not be left for the destination alone, but all through the journey; so, should there be any reason the purpose for traveling is cut off, there would have been accounted gains—motives to smile and be grateful. Learn to relish the whole itinerary of a journey or a procedure to getting work done, from the first step to the last—fix engagements along the pathway to your success, such that, there will nonetheless, be learnt lessons, if any mishap occurs along the way…. But ultimately, there will be a weightier victory with accomplishment.

At times, when you feel like giving up out of burdensome travails, think about ‘how fulfilling it will be to complete a goal’—the sense of satisfaction you will have, when the work is completed. If you think of the period of writing as a time of enjoyment, your writing will reflect your positive attitude. Working was Thomas Edison’s greatest pleasure. Little wonder how the famous inventor of the light bulb, had a thousand and ninety-three (1,093) patents made in his life-time: averaging an invention every two (2) weeks of his working career. “I find the greatest pleasure … and so my rewards; in the work that precedes what the world calls success,”8 he said.

I testify as well to basking in delightful experiences, when my set goals, especially on book projects, get close to their completion. Quite right, it takes effort and hard work to write; but, pleasure can come in the midst of it: “What is written without effort is generally read without pleasure.”9 Therefore, enjoy the satisfaction that every step of completing a penning project reveals, as those eventually sum up to a grand accomplishment; but do not stop there: as soon as you have finished one writing task, begin another—this will ignite a work mode that can keep the ball rolling on autopilot, where less effort is dissipated, and the inflowing of inspiration running steadily.

The Profession—Writing

Created like God, you have the ability to do what He does: God himself wrote10 and even told Moses to do same for the sake of a certain memorial;”11 you therefore, can … and should write. “There is a thing about writing: it has to be read, and findings therein have to be acted upon.”12 Writing is a craft that requires high skill for the writer to be an extraordinaire in the field, and it is the acquisition of this prowess that qualifies a person to be a “wordsmith.” As with any other occupation, writing has not proved to be an easy feat, especially with a mind that focuses on excellence in achieving aims. It requires unrestrained commitment, even when it is merely undertaken for leisure pursuit.

Devotion to this form of creativity had been responsible as oft-times depicted, for stretching the horizons of man’s mind—to show its limitless bounds, and sustaining education—knowledge passing—information transference, even unto many generations apart: a reason that passes the art for a noble profession. People, who engage their time to writing—mundane or extraordinary regardless, are either termed writers or authors.
